Plenary – “Computational Sciences Mainz” (M. Hanke-Bourgeois)

In 2008 the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz founded the research center “Computational Sciences Mainz” as a measure to strengthen the interdisciplinary research between natural sciences on the one hand, and computer science and mathematics on the other hand.

In the first part of this talk I will give a brief history of this center and some of its achievements. In the second part I plan to present four show cases of interdisciplinary research projects that have been initiated in this center.

These projects demonstrate that strong research links between mathematics and statistical physics, atmospheric science, and geoscience, respectively, have developed in the meantime, documenting the success of this enterprise.

The event is finished.
